University of Alberta Golden Bears goalie Kurtis Mucha had his Joe Hardy moment on Wednesday when he was asked to practise with the Boston Bruins at Rexall Place when Bruins starter Tuukka Rask came down with the flu.
It wasn’t the first time Mucha had the proverbial sip of coffee with an NHL team. In 2009, he had a try-out with the Oilers. It might not be last. Or so, the fourth-year U of A student hopes.
The flu is taking a toll in the Bruins dressing room, apparently. The club’s backup goalie, Chad Johnson, was ill the other day in Calgary. Bruins head coach Claude Julien said after the team’s practice on Wednesday he’d have to see who wakes up healthy on Thursday before deciding who starts against the Oilers.
Mucha was just happy to be of assistance, as you might imagine.
